George Campbell School of Technology Admissions 2024-2025: School Application Fees

George Campbell School of Technology offers a specialised academic education in which learners follow a technologically-based course. All learners are offered a subject package that can lead to admission to a university, a university of technology, FET colleges or any other form of post-school training.

DATES FOR ADMISSION APPLICATIONS

The dates for the submission of admission applications are as follows:

  1. The dates for applications for admission to Grade 8 for a particular year to the School is from April to September in the immediately preceding year, as advised by the School on its website or in notices issued by the School from time to time.
  2. All applications for admission to any other Grade offered by the School may be submitted at any time during the school year and will be considered in accordance with the admission criteria set out in this policy as and when a place in the relevant grade becomes available.

TECHNOLOGICALLY-BASED EDUCATION

George Campbell School of Technology offers a specialised academic education in which learners follow a technologically-based course. All learners are offered a subject package that can lead to admission to a university, a university of technology, FET colleges or any other form of post-school training.

GRADES 8 AND 9

In Grades 8 and 9, learners follow the CAPS curriculum as they would at all schools in Kwa-Zulu Natal. The only exception is that more emphasis is placed on Technology at George Campbell.

The subjects offered are:

  • English
  • Afrikaans or isiZulu First Additional Language
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Social Sciences (History/Geography)
  • Technology (Engineering Graphics & Design, Workshop Practice, Computer Literacy)
  • Economic Management Sciences
  • Arts and Culture
  • Life Orientation (Counseling, Physical Education)

GRADES 10, 11 AND 12

All learners take the following compulsory subjects:

  • Home Language: English
  • First Additional Language: Afrikaans or isiZulu
  • Mathematics or Technical Mathematics
  • Life Orientation.
  • Physical Science or Technical Science
  • Engineering Graphics and Design

In addition, learners also study:

  • Computer Applications Theory (Extra Subject)

AND one of the following technology subjects:

  • Civil Technology – Civil Services or Construction or Woodworking
  • Electrical Technology – Electrical (Power Systems) or Electronics or Digital Electronics
  • Mechanical Technology – Automotive or Fitting and Machining or Welding and Metal Work

The selection of the technology subject is made at the end of Grade 9 on the basis of the learner’s achievement in Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Technology. The technological subjects each have limits imposed on numbers by factors such as safety and the number of workstations available.

 

DOCUMENTS AND INFORMATION REQUIRED FOR THE ADMISSION OF A LEARNER

  • Document and information required for the admission of a learner
  • A copy of the learner’s birth certificate.
  • The School’s prescribed application form.
  • Proof that the learner has been immunised.
  • An original transfer card for the learner where he/she is transferring from one school (independent or public) to the School.
  • A copy of any reports that will assist the School in understanding the educational needs of the learner.
  • Proof of the residential address(es) of the learner and both parents (which proof may include a copy of a title deed, existing lease agreement and/or utility bill or bank statement not older than three months).

SCHOOL ENROLLMENT

George Campbell School of Technology is one of the main technology high schools in Durban and is able to cater for approximately 1 000 learners. Some 500 applications for admission to Grade 8 are received every year and, as it is possible to admit only 200 applicants, an assessment programme is used to assist admission.
