The period for Maritzburg College admission for the academic year 2024–2025 is March 1, 2024. As a result, prospective students must submit an online application for admission at https://maritzburgcollege.co.za/apply-now/ before the application closing date or deadline.

The General Education and Training (GET) Level: Grades 8 and 9
All learners in these grades are required to receive tuition in the below nine learning areas:
- English Home Language
- Afrikaans/isiZulu First Additional Language
- Mathematics
- Natural Science (Life and Physical Sciences)
- Human and Social Studies (Geography and History)
- Economic Management Sciences (Accounting and Economics)
- Arts and Culture (Dramatic and Visual Arts)
- Life Orientation
- Technology (Engineering Graphics & Design and Computer Literacy)
In addition to these subject areas, boys have Physical Education and Media Science lessons in Grade 8.
Further Education and Training (FET) Level: Grades 10 to 12
Learners are required to do at least seven subjects to obtain their school-leaving certificates.

Document and information required for the admission of a learner
Please ensure that you apply to more than one high school as there is a limit to the number of boys they are able to accommodate in the boarding establishment and in the classrooms.
Please Note:
- Applications for Grade 8 open at the start of the Grade 6 year, and close at the end of February of the Grade 7 year. Due to the large number of applications they receive, they prefer applications to be submitted as soon as possible in the Grade 6 year.
- Applications for Grades 9 – 12 may be made at any time during the year, but as the school is full at the start of each year, they will only be able to accept new boys if somebody leaves Maritzburg College.
In order for your son to apply to Maritzburg College and to be considered, please download and complete the relevant application form for the year of entry and return it to the school with:
- an unabridged copy of your son’s birth certificate
- a passport-size photo of your son
- a copy of his Grade 6 December report (If you are applying for Grades 9-12, they require a copy of the previous year’s December report together with his latest report for the current year)
- a copy of your son’s Clinic Card (proof of vaccination)
- a copy of both parent’s ID documents
- a copy of the most recent Utility bill
How to apply to Maritzburg College
Step 1
Before starting the online application process, please read the admissions process for the year you would like your son to start at MC by clicking on the relevant button below.
Step 2
Apply for the year you would like your son to start at Maritzburg College by clicking the relevant button below.
Once you have submitted your online application, you will receive a notification acknowledging receipt of your application and supporting documents via email.
Step 3
You will receive a notification of acceptance/non-acceptance via email once a decision has been made. This will be towards the end of April (for boarders) and the end of May (for day scholars).
Important Admissions Information
The admissions team at Maritzburg College aims to provide as much information as possible for you to have a seamless application process. Every year, they receive about 700 applications from over 160 schools and they can only accept around 40% of the day scholars and boarders who apply. Kindly take note of the following information:
- Applications for Form 2 (Grade 8) open at the start of a boy’s Grade 6 year and close in the February of his Grade 7 year. They recommend submitting his application during his Grade 6 year.
- Applications for Form 3 – 6 (Grade 9 – 12) may be made at any time of the year. Acceptance/ Non-Acceptance for the following year will only be confirmed in the Fourth Term.
- No printed or emailed admissions will be accepted.
- Late admissions will only be considered if places become available. Application form 2024
- It is essential that you also apply to at least 2 other schools, as there is no guarantee that your son’s application to Maritzburg College will be successful.
