Graeme College Subjects
Below are the subjects offered at the institution with all the details:
Graeme College follows the syllabi of the Eastern Cape Education Department. The subject selection has been chosen to accommodate a wide variety of options. They endeavour to enrich these syllabi to the benefit of our pupils.
Senior Phase – Grade 8 and Grade 9
- Literacy, Language and Communication (LLC) (English/Afrikaans/Xhosa)
- Mathematics
- Economic and Management Science (EMS)
- Life Orientation (LO)
- Human and Social Science (HSS)
- Natural Science (NS)
- Arts and Culture (A&C)
- Technology (TECH)
National Senior Certificate (NSC) – Grade 8, Grade 9 and Grade 10
NSC subjects are grouped into two main categories – group A and group B.
Group A – a learner must select four (4) subjects from:
Three official languages are offered. Two must be selected.
- English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language and Xhosa First Additional Language.
- Life Orientation (compulsory)
- Mathematics or Maths Literacy (One must be selected)
Group B – (a learner must select a further three [3] subjects, one subject from each of the following options:
- Physical Science Business Studies or Life Sciences
- History or Life Sciences or Music or Design or Visual Art
- Accounting or Geography or Music or Design or Visual Art
Document and information required for the admission of a learner
For both the online and the manual applications, the following documents are required. For the online application, these documents must be scanned in and attached to the application.
- Id or unabridged birth certificate of the child
- One ID photo of the learner
- Latest school report
- ID copies of both parents/guardians
- Copy of Court Order if the learner is placed under Guardianship
- Clearance Certificate of previous school & latest statement
- Proof of residence (water & lights acc)
- Copy of Divorce Agreement, if applicable
- Copy of the Maintenance Court Order if applicable
- Copy of medical aid card
- Copy of death certificate (if applicable)
- Proof of income for both parents/guardians
- Proof of unemployment for both parents/guardians (if applicable: Letter from Dept of Labour)
- Copy of grant received
- Copy of the child’s Immunisation Card

Admissions

The Admissions Office opens for applications at the start of each school year. The closing date for applications every year is the end of April. This date may change from year to year but the closing date will always be advertised in the school’s weekly newsletter and in the local newspaper towards the end of April.
The application form, once received by you, must be completed and returned to the Admissions Secretary together with all requested documentation.
No application will be considered if the application form is not completed in its entirety and if all requested documentation is omitted upon submission of the application form.
Graeme College only considers applicants for Grade 00 and Grade 4. Applicants to all other grades will be placed on a waiting list.
Grade 00 and Grade 4 Applicants
All applicants for Grade 00 and 4 will receive notification of the status of their application once the Admissions Panel has completed the admissions process.
Grade 1 to 3 and Grade 5 to 12
All applications will be placed on a waiting list and no further notification will be provided.
Should space become available in any particular grade, the Admissions Panel will convene to review applicants for that grade. Applicants will be notified accordingly. This process may only occur at the end of any given year or if space becomes available. Online Applications 2024
