Academics at Hermannsburg

In Hermannsburg, eighth-grade students begin their high school careers. In order to cover the material more efficiently, several subjects are semesterized, with summative exams in June. This has gained favor from educators, students, and parents. The Senior Phase ends with the completion of grade 9, and subject selections are then made.

Accounting, Business Studies, Geography, History, Life Sciences, Music, Physical Science, and Visual Arts are among the subjects that are available. German is available as a second additional language or as a home language.

Education & Training (FET) phase in grade 10. At the end of grade nine, kids must select a minimum of seven subjects for this phase, which they will continue through grade twelve when they matriculate. The following subjects are required: English as the primary language, a First Additional Language (Afrikaans or isiZulu), Life Orientation, and either Math or Math Literacy. Hermannsburg is dedicated to assisting all students in successfully completing their grade 12 year, which includes the IEB NSC exams.

The IEB was chosen because, in comparison to many other exit exams, it better equips students to think for themselves. The IEB stands out as the finest local and international NSC alternative due to its research, critical thinking, and creative thinking methodologies, as well as its international benchmarking. Results reveal that IEB scholars have superior throughput at tertiary levels and are better prepared for the National Benchmarking Tests.

Depending on the choices made, our scholars are also offered the opportunity to obtain the internationally recognized German Language Diploma (Deutsche Sprachdiplom – DSD), as well as to take Advanced Programme English (soon we plan to introduce AP Mathematics and AP Physics too), which helps to open doors at universities in Germany and further abroad.

The High School has a well-stocked library, a modern computer center, science laboratories, dedicated music facilities, and an art classroom, nestled around the quadrangle. Classrooms are fitted with necessary audio-visual equipment and Internet access is available throughout the school buildings.
