Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School offers girls from Grade 8 to Grade 12 a dynamic learning environment, with diverse opportunities for the development of each individual. GHS is a proudly South African school, led by highly-qualified and dedicated educators who guide their learners in maintaining a balance between their academic, sporting, and cultural endeavors.

All prospective students may now apply for admission to the school for the academic year 2024-2025 by visiting the admissions site. Parents are recommended to provide all relevant documentation during the admissions season when applying their children to Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School.

Pietermaritzburg Girls High School has an outstanding record of achievements in the NSC Examinations, as well as in the subsequent successes of girls in tertiary education and in their chosen professions
It is said that four of the most important skills of the 21st century are CRITICAL THINKING, COMMUNICATION, COLLABORATION, and CREATIVITY. At GHS we believe that our expert teachers and top-class academic facilities enable our learners to explore and master these skills.

Academic pursuits receive priority at GHS and they are proud to announce that their 2015 Matric class achieved over 510 distinctions, with our top 3 learners each achieving a 91% aggregate. Salona Burdhu, Dux of 2015, was also ranked as one of the Top five matrics in the uMgungundlovu District.

 

What documentation do I need for the online application?

• A passport-size photo of your daughter. (The same size as for a Passport or ID doc)
• Learner’s unabridged Birth Certificate. (If you do not have one, please apply for one, and in the meantime, you may use the abridged one.)
• Biological Father’s and Mother’s ID
• If either parent is deceased, please attach a copy of their death certificate.
• If either parent’s details are not available please attach an affidavit from the police station, explaining why this information is not available.
• Learner’s latest report copy
• Utility bill (not older than 3 months) ie. Water and Lights account Bank statement or lease of the property where you reside.
• Medical aid card (Both sides)
• Any other supporting documents that you feel may impact the application

2024 School Fees

School Fees Grade 8: R43 000 per annum
School Fees Grade 9-12: R40 278 per annum

Payable over 10 months from January to October.

• 6.5% discount on / before 31 December 2024.
• 6% discount on / before 31 January 2025.
• 5% discount on / before 28 February 2025.

Boarding Fees: R61 250 per annum

• Per term, payable in advance

 

ADMINISTRATION OF THE APPLICATION PROCESS

In order to achieve the foregoing, but also to ensure a just and equitable selection process should the school be oversubscribed, the measures listed below will be implemented in managing the application process.

• The closing date for online applications will be set annually and widely advertised.
• Applications received by the closing date will be given preference over late applications.
• Only after all applications received by the closing date have been dealt with, will the school consider late applications, and then only if there are still places available in the school (Appendix 1).
• A written response to every application received will be forwarded to parents/guardians who made the application.
• It is specifically noted that the parent/legal guardian of a minor learner has the exclusive right to take an initial decision concerning which school they wish to apply to for their child/ward to be enrolled. Consequently, no application will be accepted or regarded as being valid unless it is made by the parent/legal guardian of the minor learner or by a person authorized thereto, in writing, by one of the foregoing.
• The reality is that Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School can only, because of the demand for placement at the school, accept approximately 30% of the total number of applicants. All applicants are therefore advised to also apply to at least two other schools. High School Fees 2024
