At Scottburgh Primary, they believe in open communication between staff, students & parents. To that end, they have developed a variety of systems to ensure parents are always “in the loop” on school activities, functions & news.

For the academic year 2024–2025, Scottburgh High School will accept applications from any parents who wish their kids to enroll there. ACADEMICS

THE SCHOOL CURRICULUM

There are two phases in the School Curriculum:

The Junior Secondary or General Education and Training (G.E.T.C.) Phase – this encompasses Grades 8 & 9 and;
The Senior Secondary or Further Education and Training (F.E.T.C.) Phase – this includes Grades 10, 11, and 12. The formal introduction of F.E.T.C. started in Grade 10 in 2006.

THE G.E.T.C PHASE (GRADES 8 AND 9)

This is where the implementation of Outcomes Based Education (O.B.E.) continues from primary school. This phase incorporates the following learning areas in Grades 8 and Grade 9.

G8 & G9 SUBJECTS OFFERED:

  • English
  • Afrikaans / Zulu (1st Additional Language)
  • Life Orientation
  • Mathematics
  • Natural Sciences (Biology & Physics)
  • Economic & Management Sciences (EMS)
  • Geography
  • History
  • Technology
  • Creative Arts

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS  FOR PROMOTION IN GRADES 8 & 9

  1. The assessment process for Grades 8 and 9 will consist of 75% school-based CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT AND 25% SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT.
  2. Learners in grades 8 and 9 will proceed to the next grade if the following requirements are met.
  3. Obtained at least 40% in the required OFFICIAL LANGUAGE at the HOME LANGUAGE level.
  4. Obtained at least 30% in the other required language on at least FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE level
  5. Obtained at least 30% in Mathematics
  6. Obtained 40% in Life Orientation
  7. Obtained at least 40% in 3 of the remaining 5 Learning areas and at least 30% in the remaining 2 learning areas.
  8. A Condonation will be allowed with NOT ACHIEVED {0 – 29%} in any one of the learning areas.  In such an instance the OFFICIAL LANGUAGE AT the HOME LANGUAGE level and the FIRST ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE will be considered individual Learning areas

PLEASE NOTE: All learning areas must be passed – a failure in any one learning area will reflect that the learner is not yet ready to proceed.

 

SENIOR PHASE (GR 10, 11 & 12)

G10, Gr11 & Gr12 Subjects Offered:

  • English (Home Language)
  • Afrikaans / Zulu (1st Additional Language)
  • Mathematics / Mathematical Literacy
  • Life Orientation
  • Physical Science
  • Life Science
  • Geography
  • History
  • Accountancy
  • Engineering Graphic Design
  • Computer Applied Technology (CAT)
  • Visual Arts
  • Consumer Studies

 

THE PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADES 10 AND 11:

A minimum of 7 subjects must be offered:

  • Official Language at Home Language level  – 40%
  • Other approved Language at least at 1st Additional Language – 30%
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy – 30%
  • Life Orientation – 40%
  • One of the optional subjects – 40%
  • The other two optional subjects – 30%

GRADE 12 PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS:

The KZNSC in its present capacity is offered for the last time in 2007.  Promotion requirements for grade 12 remain unchanged and are available on request.

GRADE 1

The application needs to be made in person, i.e. by the parents; the forms are not available electronically, nor are they posted on request.

As the school’s Grade One class is generally over-subscribed by as much as 50%, parents living outside Scottburgh, who do not have other children already enrolled at Scottburgh Primary School, are advised to apply at the school closest to their place of residence, or at other schools in the area. The Initial Application form must be completed in full by the child’s parents and accompanied by the following supporting documents:

Certified copies of:

  • Child’s official birth certificate
  • Child’s vaccination records. Please ensure that all vaccinations are up to date
  • Latest progress report from the previous school
  • Mother’s identity document
  • Father’s identity document
  • If applicable, a copy of the death certificate if one of the parents is deceased
  • Proof of residence  – a Utility Bill (rates/electricity/water account) in the name of the parent and showing the residential address – not older than three months
  • Clearance certificate or current school fee statement

Acceptance of the application does not guarantee or imply acceptance at Scottburgh Primary School.

GRADES 2 – 7

Due to the existing number of children already enrolled within the school, the number of vacancies in Grades 2 to 7 will be limited.

SCHOOL FEES

As decided upon at the Annual General Meeting / Budget Meeting held on 9 November 2021, School Fees for 2024 will be:

  • R21 600.00 payable over 10 months – R2160.00 per month (January to October)
  • Upon entering the school, a once-off Development Levy of R2000.00 is payable.
