Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Admission 2026-2027: GDE Online Application 2026
The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) Admission for Grade 1 and Grade 8: Online Application for the 2026-2027 academic year will be open on 15 June 2025 and closes on 14 July 2025. All GDE online applications for registration dates for admission to the 2026-2027 academic cycle will be on the GDE website, visit: www.gdeadmissions.gov.za 2026 registration for more details. GDE Late Applications to Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the 2026 academic year is opening on 18 December 2025 and closing on 31 January 2026. To submit your application, you will be required register and complete the 5 step application process.
Gauteng Department Of Education GDE has announced admissions and registrations for 2026. Keep the following dates in mind for critical entrance and registration deadlines:
The first phase of the GDE Online Application for the 2026 Admission Period will be accessible from 15 June 2025 to 14 July 2025 for Grade 7 learners currently in the Gauteng public school system to apply to Grade 8.
The second phase of the 2026 GDE Admissions Period will begin on 13 September 2025 and close on 8 October 2025. Phase 2 accepts Grade 1 applications as well as applications from outside of Gauteng public schools up to Grade 8.
During Phase 1, parents of learners that are currently in Grade 7 public ordinary schools in Gauteng will enrol their children in Grade 8
During Phase 2, parents of learners who need admission to Grade 1 and the remaining Grade 7 learners from independent schools and other provinces will make applications to Grade 1 and Grade 8 for the 2026 academic year
All parents with children that need to commence with Grade 1 and /or Grade 8 must apply online for learners to be admitted to a school in the 2026 Academic year.

Documents Needed To Apply For GDE Admission 2026-2027 (Grade 1 and Grade 8)
After you have completed your online registration for 2026, you need to provide the following documents to the school you selected when applying. For both South African citizens and non-South African citizens, a list of all required documents will appear on the application confirmation note.
Consequently, regardless of whether the child is entering Grade 1 or Grade 8, the following documents must be submitted:
- Your ID document as the parent or legal guardian
- The birth certificate of the learner
- Proof of your home or work address
- Immunization/clinic document which should prove that the child does not have tuberculosis, tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, measles, and diphtheria (if the child is applying as a Grade 1 learner)
- If the child is in another school, you will need to supply the most recent report of the child
Document Needed From International Students
- Passport of the parent or legal guardian
- Proof of your home or work address
- Asylum Seeker or Refugee Permit of the child
- Current academic report card of the school where the child is presently (if the child is applying for Grade 8)
